The paper deals with the problem in the reconstruction of the accent of Proto-Slavic*sьrdьce "heart". Slovene srcệ, Russian се́рдце (зá сердце), pl. сердцá and Bulgarian сърдцѐ seem to point to *sь̑rdьce, same as Croatian sȑce, nȁ srce, but Croatian variant sȑce, nà srce and sȑdašce point to Proto-Slavic *sь̋rdьce. In the paper the reflexes of this word in each Slavic language is being discussed and the problems of the both variants of the reconstruction in the Proto-Slavic itself. This problem is in close relationship with the question of the shortening of the long circumflex in trisyllabicwords of the type ˈ‧V:‧ь‧V‧. In the end, it is concluded that for Proto-Slavic the accentual paradigm c form, *sь̑rdьce, is to be reconstructed and that the long circumflex is shortened in the trisyllabic words of the type ˈ‧V:‧ь‧V‧ in Croatian.
